All three songs have an ongoing theme that is present throughout each. The ongoing theme is love and how love will change people and their actions. Most people will do anything for love. It is the strongest emotion there is to feel, it makes the world different. If the right person comes along, your life will be changed forever, sometimes for the better and other times for the worse. In the first song “Beautifully Broken by Gov’t. Mule, The author is speaking of a woman is who beautiful because of her flaws. He wishes to help her and somehow fix what is broken inside her. She is dangerous and plays with feelings very easily. He always seemed to go for the dangerous ones. From a far, she look unharmed, untouched. But when close up, you could see she was scratched from the inside out with pain. In the second song "Burden in my hand" by Soundgarden" was written from the point of view from the person in love also. The main focus in the song, the woman is looking for love and desires romance. Just like in Beautifully Broken, the woman shows a constant pull of resistance. Also, she is very hurt and worried to open a new relationship because of the hurt she could face. Both songs show a strong sense of empowerment from the woman and and how she carries herself. The last song "I just want you" by Ozzy Osbourne assembles the real meaning of a boy wanting a girl. The woman is making it difficult for the man to have an recognition. She likes playing hard to get, just like the two other songs. While the theme of these three songs are based upon love, another theme could be the powerful independence of a woman. There is a woman who plays with every mans heart in each of these songs. Women are strong and independent. Most of the time, they get what they want, including the guy. Love is a strong theme that in most songs will be written from heartbreak. These three song show the continuous theme of love and help show the strong independence of a woman.

Song #3
“Beautifully Broken” by Govt. Mule
Mysterious, blown in with the night
All this beauty captured in a frame
Visibly shaken, but never stirred
Drives them insane
I see the way she plays her men
And I know I've got to know her name
She's so beautifully broken
Shaped by the wind
Dangerously twisted
Here I go again
I see the way she cast her spell
It's like drowning in moonlight
Discards them she's done
They're lost in her twilight
I watch her move from star to star
And I wonder why, why it feels so right
She's so beautifully broken
You can barely see the flaw
Especially from a distance
Which is always how I fall
Why do I fall for the dangerous ones
The ones that never learned to let go
And why do I lie to myself
And pretend that I can break her
When she's already been so
Beautifully broken
Why do I fall for the dangerous ones
The ones that don't know how to let go
And why do I lie to myself
And pretend that I could break her
When she's already been so
Beautifully broken
Shaped by the wind
Dangerously twisted
Here I go again, here I go again
Song Analysis:
Metaphor
Simile
Alliteration
The song beautifully broken by Govt. Mule has literary devices that help convey the meaning throughout the song. There is metaphors, similes, alliteration, symbolism and much more to help get the view across to the readers. The song starts out speaking about a women. She is mysterious like the wind, you never know what she is thinking or what she will do. In the line “All this beauty captured in a frame” states that everything is beautiful about this women. She could also be considered a work of art, such as a painting hanging in a picture frame because everything about her is perfect. “She’s so beautifully broken” is said by the singer, he knows she is hurt and wants to help her. Her flaws are what makes her beautiful to him. He knows she can’t be helped however. She doesn’t need anyones help and he knows that she can’t be fixed. “I see the way she cast her spell”, this line refers to how she gets all the men. It’s almost as easy as casting a spell for her in order to get the attention from the guys. She uses people and once she is done, she tosses them off to the side and moves on to the next. Even though he shouldn’t like or want her he does and he can’t help himself. You can’t tell she is hurting, until you get close enough to fully see her. She is beautiful from a far and that why so many people fall in love until they see who she truly is. He lays falls for the dangerous ones and the ones he always gets hurt by. But he cannot help himself and falls for her anyway. Although, he find out he cannot help her no matter what. There is no use since she is already beautiful broken.

Song #2
“I Just Want You” by Ozzy Osbourne
There are no unlockable doors
There are no unwinable wars
There are no unrightable wrongs
Or unsignable songs
There are no unbeatable odds
There are no believable gods
There are no unnameable names
Shall I say it again, yeah
There are no impossible dreams
There are no invisible seams
Each night when the day is through
I dont ask much
I just want you
I just want you
There are no uncriminal crimes
There are no unrhymable rhymes
There are no identical twins or
Forgivable sins
There are no incurable ills
There are no unkillable thrills
One thing and you know it’s true,
I don’t ask much
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you
I’m sick and tired of bein’ sick and tired
I used to go to bed so high and wired, yeah - yeah, yeah, yeah
I think I’ll buy myself some plastic water
I guess I should have married Lennon’s daughter, yeah - yeah, yeah, yeah
There are no unachievable goals
There are no unsaveable souls
No legitimate kings or queens, do
You know what I mean? yeah
There are no indisputable truths
And there ain’t no fountain of youth
Each night when the day is through,
I don’t ask much
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you
I just want you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I just want you
I just want you,
Hey, yeah
I just want you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I just want you, hey
I just want you
I just want you
Song analysis:
In the beginning he is saying nothing is impossible. You can achieve anything as long as you believe it and he ties the whole chorus in to it. In the line “I just want you”, it may seem impossible for him to have such a person as his significant other, but nothing is impossible so he believes he can have her. He is constantly fighting with himself to see if he can get her or not. He believes she is too good for him and he has to work very hard to have her. In verse two he takes things that seem quite impossible and states that they are, like “no uncriminal crimes/ or forgettable sins. A crime is a crime no matter what. He gives constant examples to show his love for her. He contradicts with every line. “He doesn’t ask for much/ I just want you”, after everything he’s been through all he wants is her. He has been waiting patiently with no sins to weigh him down. just so he has a shot with her.

“Burden in My Hand” by Soundgarden
Written by Chris Cornell
Follow me into the desert
As thirsty as you are
Crack a smile and cut your mouth
And drown in alcohol
cause down below the truth is lying
Beneath the riverbed
So quench yourself and drink the water
That flows below her head
Oh no there she goes
Out in the sunshine the sun is mine
I shot my love today would you cry for me
I lost my head again would you lie for me
I left her in the sand just a burden in my hand
I lost my head again would you cry for me
Close your eyes and bow your head
I need a little sympathy
cause fear is strong and loves for everyone
Who isn’t me
So kill your health and kill yourself
And kill everything you love
And if you live you can fall to pieces
And suffer with my ghost
Just a burden in my hand
Just an anchor on my heart
Just a tumor in my head
And I’m in the dark
So follow me into the desert
As desperate as you are
Where the moon is glued to a picture of heaven
And all the little pigs have god
Song Analysis:
In the song Burden in my hand by Sound Garden, the artist conveys the meaning of a relationship and the constant pull from each person within it. “Follow me into the desert” is referring to the mysteries of love and romance, he makes the desert and her thirst a metaphor for love, because when he says “as thirsty as you are” it means she desires romance. She “cracks a smile and cut your mouth” which is like opening up in a relationship, it is very hard to do and sometimes you have to break down barriers that are built up for so long, it may cause you harm. “Drown in alcohol” is love itself, he is saying to get love drunk. Everything about love can make you feel a completely different way and make you act different as if you are drunk. The line” cause down below your truth is lying” means that he doesn’t want her to hide her feelings. “So quench yourself and drink the water that flows below her head” means to just let the feelings take over and don't dehydrate yourself from it. In the chorus “ I shot my love today, would you cry for me”, he is referring to the way he messed up the relationship. In verse two he states “close yur eyes bow your head/ I need a little sympathy/ cause fear is strong and loves for everyone/ who isn’t me”. He let fear out of some things outweigh everything else, so he doesn’t want anyone to say anything, he just wants everyone to close their eyes and bow their heads and show him sympathy. Then he says love is for everyone who isn't me so everyone except for him can love. He then follows by saying “so kill your wealth and kill yourself/ and kill everything you love/ and if you live you can fall to pieces/ and suffer with my ghost”. He is now talking about himself and thinks he should just drop everything. He doesn’t want to love because he thinks he will just ruin it again. She can live and fall to pieces with the memory of him in her brain. This song has literary devices in it to help get the meaning across easier. There are many signs of personification, metaphors and a lot of symbolism.

Both Sides
In the poem Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell conveys the ups and downs in life. The most important part of the song is the second stanza. The second stanza amplify's the things Mitchell needs to accomplish in life and how parts of your life can go up and down. Looking up to the clouds shows that there is a higher life that Mitchell does not know above. He has gone through struggles in life "from up and down and still some how" represents the clouds. On our poster, we drew clouds above and below a man. This represents that you can look around and see what is going on around you. Also, the man might be feeling sadness all around him. Even if he cannot escape them. The clouds raining and snowing could symbolize love also. Love may be effecting his life. It may feel as if he is being rained out because he is sad from a relationship or love. Mitchell conveys the highest and lowest points in life by using clouds and how they affect his daily life.

Another Brick In The Wall
In the song Another Brick In the Wall by Pink Floyd the song writer uses many literary devices to convey the meaning of conformity. While the song relates to conformity, the video uses children in a school system to provide a visual aspect of conformity and how it affects ordinary lives. The first stanza has the songwriter questioning his father and what he left for him. The lyric “All in all it was just a brick in the wall” is a metaphor comparing people to bricks. The music video does a very good job at this. Children are all dressed the same and are forced to wear masks. A brick is boring and has no meaning to it, nothing like a person. However, comparing someone to a brick means that they have no personality to them. The children in the video are forced to be the same to show how conformity will affect a person. There is an element of disrespect the students get from parents and teachers. The meaning behind the song is to provide an example of conformity and what it looks like in a nature day of society. People go by certain rules because that is considered right to the society around them. The song is constantly chanting “we don’t need no education” ,this has to do with what the children were feeling.
The symbolism to the video, also portrays in the song lyrics. The students walk in a straight line without talking. They are in orderly fashion walking to the orders of a teacher. The song and the video were both trying to get people to conform and do what they think is right for the society. The video also shows people rebelling against conformity. The students at the end of the video throw chairs and sets things on fire. Not everyone has to go by the rules and have different ideas. The mood has a huge impact especially in the video. The students change their aspect on society and goes against what everyone thinks is right and do what they want.
